Statement

My work seems to be just as much about nature, the psyche and human perception as it is about color, composition and light. These canvases contain an unwavering curiosity about how the mind works and how we interpret, and therefore create, a relationship with the environment that surrounds us.

The use of certain elements, in my work, placed in unpredictable situations express new possibilities in our world as we know it, which is not controlled by reason or logic. My focus is the female figure, but is not necessarily about femininity and I tend to paint timeless women in timeless places. They are portrayed as confident souls, not only with who they are but with where they are. Usually, their world is that of dreams, and sometimes takes us, as the viewer, to a world of mystery, and sometimes on the edge of our comfort zone.

In a literal sense, I am fascinated by the figure itself, how it takes up space and how light plays on its form. The Masters of the Renaissance have long been my teachers, as well as the gurus of psychology, sociology and cultural and religious studies. I will forever be a student of the figure, the psyche, and the living and breathing world that surrounds us, and always trying to learn something new from the interplay of all three.

Although I paint the figure, I like to call them "still lifes," because it seems they are snapshots wedged in between the frames of reality we normally choose to see. I hope you will open your mind to these "stills" of possibilities and intangibles and enjoy the world that actually exists inside your own magnificent imagination.
